PLEASANTON - A motorcyclist was seriously injured Monday evening after
he was struck by a car on Interstate 680, the California Highway Patrol
said. The driver of the car then sped away heading northbound.
The hit-and-run occurred about 6:35 p.m. on northbound I-680, south of
Sunol Boulevard. CHP reported that the driver of a 2004 white BMW sedan
was driving at upward of 100 mph and almost collided with several vehicles.
The driver began closely following a 2005 Chevrolet SUV before a curve
in the highway and the motorcyclist was just ahead driving a 2007 Suzuki
GSXR750. The motorcyclist's rear wheel was struck by the front of
the BMW and the motorcylist was ejected onto the pavement and his head
collided with the concrete roadway.
The driver of the SUV stopped to assist the motorcyclist, who was taken
to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley with major injuries.
The BMW driver reportedly drove away with a flat front tire. CHP is trying
to determine the driver's identity.
