JUNE 23, 2009 - A motorcyclist was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver on Interstate 680, authorities said. The collision occurred in the northbound lanes, south of Sunol Boulevard, around 6:35 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of a white 2004 BMW was driving approximately 100 mph and nearly collided with several vehicles, authorities said. The driver then began tailgating a 2005 Chevrolet sports utility vehicle before passing the SUV and slamming into the back of a 2007 Suzuki GSXR750. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected and strike his head on the roadway, officials said. The rider was transported to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and treated for major injuries. The driver of the BMW reportedly continued northbound with a flat tire. The CHP is seeking the identity of the BMW driver.
