June 12, 2009 - Authorities reported a 17-year-old Pleasonton girl suffered major injuries in an off-road vehicle accident near Sunol. The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m., on a private ranch off Niles Canyon Road, near Highway 84, about two miles west of Interstate 680. The girl, identified as a CHP officer as Breanna Furphy, was ejected from the vehicle, a late model Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck which had no seat belts or doors. Furphy was riding in the vehicle with a classmate, but was the only one injured. She was taken to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley and then transported to Stanford Medical Center.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
