The Dunnion Law Firm was called by a young girl with a problem. She had been in a very minor accident–almost no property damage–but she was facing knee surgery. The client had been having trouble with the knee since age 14 and had already had two surgeries by the time of the fender bender. The defendant’s insurance carrier did not want to take any responsibility for making the situation worse, even after there were two more surgeries on the same ligament. The first repaired the ligament that had become lax and the second re-did that surgery which was botched by a doctor who should not have been practicing medicine. But the defendant refused to offer anything in settlement and suit was filed. After completing discovery, the parties agreed to a mediation and Dunnion was finally able to secure a settlement for its client that will put $45,000 in her pocket, tax free, to purchase an automobile and pay her school tuition and living expenses for as long as it will take her to complete her degree.
