A college student was crossing Coldwell Avenue at Campus Way in Modesto, California, when she was struck by a careless driver. Even though the driver would later tell responding officers that he noticed blinking crosswalk lights, he claimed that as he approached the crosswalk he was blinded by oncoming headlights. Even still, he continued through the crosswalk, striking a student in the knee with the edge of his bumper as he passed.
The student was very fortunate to have not suffered a more direct impact. Unfortunately, in the months that followed the accident she was plagued with knee pain, and further investigation revealed a meniscus tear. Problematically, the client suffered an interruption in her health insurance shortly before undergoing arthroscopic surgery to correct the tear, leaving her unable to pay and therefore unable to undergo the surgery. The Dunnion Law Firm was able to quickly put her in contact with an orthopedic surgeon and surgery center that agreed to do the procedure at no up-front cost. Her attorney then negotiated a $75,000 settlement for the her and arranged for the payment of all her medical bills.
