A couple from Los Angeles were in Santa Cruz for a visit when a new "friend" decided to take them for a joy ride. The couple joined the man for drinks with his companion. Because they drank alcohol, the couple did not want to drive so the man advised them he was "ok" to drive and proceeded away from the bar in the couple’s jeep. The police attempted pull the man over and he tried to evade the police in a high speed pursuit with the couple yelling in the back seat to pull over. The man failed to navigate a sharp turn and he struck a guard rail head on.
The couple both appeared to sustaine significant injuries and were taken to the emergency room. The driver was arrested and taken to jail. Because the District Attorney was prosecuting the man for DUI resulting in great bodily harm, the police could not release the accident report. The man’s insurance told the couple they would not do anything to help them until the report was released. The couple turned to The Dunnion Law Firm for help.
A short time after hiring The Dunnion Law Firm, the insurance company changed its tune and acknowledged they owed the couple compensation for both the property damage and injuries. The man had broken ribs and a lacerated ear. The woman had a fractured leg and ribs. The Dunnion Law Firm arranged for the critical medical care they needed and the couple ultimately received more than $355,000 combined for the two of them.
