Client’s fiancé called the Dunnion Law Firm the day after client’s accident, concerned that she might have serious injuries. Client had been T-boned by a vehicle running a stop sign the day before and was still in the hospital undergoing tests for internal injuries. Dunnion’s attorney went to the hospital the next day to meet with her and learned that the testing was normal, but the client had a broken clavicle. It took the client longer than expected to recover from her injures and her lost earnings were significant. She was a kindergarten teacher and it was several months before she could pick up children; hence, she lost an entire year of teaching. In an unusual move, the insurance company sent a representative to meet with Dunnion and the client early on and maintained a close relationship during the client’s convalescence. The parties were thus able to settle the claim on a very favorable basis just before the statute of limitations ran, which enhanced the net to the client since she did not have to pay increased attorney fees or costs. Dunnion’s client was able to keep almost half of a $200,000 settlement after paying her medical bills and costs.
