An 11 year old Fresno elementary school student and cheerleader was walking down a public alleyway near her home, looking for her puppy that had gotten loose. The alley was was between several homes in this young girl’s neighborhood. One of these homes had a fence that had large holes. Suddenly, and without warning, a large pit bull came charging out of one of the fence holes. The pit bull attacked this poor young girl, savagely biting her about her back, legs and arms. The girl fell and held up her hands to defend against the pit bull’s bites, suffering large open wounds to her wrist. A neighbor, hearing her screams, came to her rescue and beat the pit bull off the girl with a broom. After this terrifying incident, the girl and her mother contacted The Dunnion Law Firm. Dunnion immediately went into action: they contacted the pit bull’s owner and demanded he accept responsibility and turn the matter over to his insurance company. As is often the case, the pit bull owner refused to cooperate. But Dunnion would not be detered, and this pit bull owner finally capitulated. He accepted full responsibility and his insurance company promised to offer a settlement after the girl completed her medical and psychological treatment. Fortunately, the girl’s terrible wounds healed and her residual scarring was not substantial. But the scarring caused her extreme embarrassment. She could not even continue cheerleading because of her self-consciousness about these scars. The pit bull owners’s insurance company tried initially to not pay all of the policy limits, but such an unreasonable posture was aggressively countered by The Dunnion Law Firm. This young cheerleader deserved all of the insurance monies totaling $100,000.00, and she was finally offered all of it. She can now look forward to a settlement that will be structured to grow larger so that when she starts college, she will have her tuition paid for. Dunnion is committed to helping clients of all ages, especially the most vulnerable who are children.
