A 47 year old man, disabled since birth with Perthes Disease that made his bones weak and required a prior hip replacement, was injured in a single car accident July 29, 2014 in rural Tulare County. A neighbor acquaintance came to his door at 2:00 a.m. and asked him if he would ride with him to pick up a neighbors truck from nearby Farmersville. The 47 year old, who also suffered with mental issues since a car accident some 10 years ago, was always wiling to help and agreed to accompany his neighbor. For reasons unknown, the neighbor caused his vehicle to leave the roadway at approximately 3:00 a.m. resulting in a horrific gash in the man’s scalp. He was transported to the hospital where he was stitched and released. His bill was partially paid by his disability insurance, in the amount of $7,389.76. He contacted the neighbors automobile insurance carrier and proceeded to get the run around. They would not even pay his medical bills. At that point, the man hired The Dunnion Law Firm. The Dunnion attorney reviewed the medical records and decided an expert evaluation was necessary to ascertain the full degree of the injury. The Dunnion attorney arranged for a meeting and interview with the doctor and the man’s parents. It became clear that although there was certainly residual mental issues from his earlier accident, this instant accident clearly had made his situation far worse. The Dunnion attorney now armed with strong medical evidence made a demand for compensation, before litigation commenced, in an attempt to settle his personal injury claim. The insurance company countered with an offer that was rejected by The Dunnion attorney on behalf of the 47 year old. The Dunnion Attorney subsequently recommended mediation as a means to settle the case which was accepted by the insurance carrier. After 4 hours of pressuer packed mediation, the insurance carrier finall increased its offer from $40,000.00 to $90,000.00 which was accepted by the 47 year old disabled man. He was extremely pleased with the results of his case, how his case was handled, and the respect he was shown by The Dunnion Law Firm and the mediator.
