Dunnion’s client was hit in a crosswalk while pushing his shopping cart across with a “walk” signal. There did not seem to be any question of whose fault the accident was, but client could not get the medical treatment he needed. In spite of being in a lot of pain and having been diagnosed with a serious leg fracture, he was sent home from the emergency room with “aspirin.” After a few more visits, the emergency room orthopedist told him he “might” order an MRI the “next time” if the pain continued. Client had hired an attorney right away but could not get return phone calls or access to the needed treatment. Desperate, he finally called the Dunnion Law Firm. Although he had no health insurance, we were able to get him in to see a prominent orthopedic surgeon, who agreed to do the necessary surgery while holding off getting paid until the case settled. Further, we put him in touch with a company which was willing to fund housing for him while he recovered, as it is no picnic to be on the street post-surgery. Once supplied with the necessary care and support, the client thrived and recovered well. We were then able to settle his case before litigation for a sum large enough to pay for his fees, costs, for his care, for his huge pre-existing debts, and still put more than $50,000 in his pocket.
