A 66 year old female church worker with a dark past receives $160,000.00 after hiring The Dunnion Law Firm for her motor vehicle accident. On April 7, 2014, a 66 year old woman was operating her 2008 Hyundai Sonata en route to her employment at a local church as a custodian. This job was the only once she could secure after having served 11 years in prison for various drug offenses. She had not violated her parole in any manner in the last 5 years. As she was nearing the church, she stopped at a stop light at the intersection of Bellevue and First. As she entered the intersection, after having come to a complete stop, an older Hispanic man in a pick-up truck ran the red light. She was hit on the driver side. There was no air bag deployment. The police and paramedics came to the scene and transported her to the emergency room where she was x-rayed and evaluated and found to have suffered soft tissue injuries, but fortunately no fractures. She was subsequently released. Approximately one month after the accident, the 66 year old who was also an active heart patient, reported to the emergency room due to severe headaches. The doctors at that time diagnosed a minor stroke. And, again, she was released. She was concerned that the stroke may have been related to her motor vehicle accident and wanted legal advice. She called The Dunnion Law Firm and the file was assigned to an attorney who hired an expert neurologist from Fresno, California, who will find that there was no connection between the stroke and the motor vehicle accident. Notwithstanding the lack of causation, the woman’s daughter described her mother’s altered state. Based on all of the evidence and the fact that a skilled mediator was engaged along with the retention of an expert, the defendant’s insurance carrier took the case seriously and ultimately agreed to a mediated settlement in the amount of $160,000.00. The total lien for Medicare benefits was reduced by The Dunnion Law Firm to the sum of $582.00.
