A long time elderly Merced resident had a stroke and required the use of a nursing home. The woman’s was essentially confined to her bed and required significant assistance with her activities of daily living. The care plan developed by the facility for this woman required two people to be present whenever she was moved. One young CNA attempted to give the woman a bath alone and rolled the woman out of the bed causing the woman to hit her head on the bed side table.
Whenever a person is in a residential nursing facility, there is a written care plan that specifies all requirements of the facility. When a person goes into the facility, the person (and the person’s family) should activity participate in the creation of that plan so that all of the resident’s needs are considered and observed. We should also follow up with our family members that are in a facility and talk to them about the care they are receiving and making sure they are receiving the care they need while in the facility.
