Motorist and Construction Worker Killed Early Thursday In Sacramento County Construction Zone Crash; DUI Suspected
JUNE 11 , 2009 - An early morning crash at the intersection of Macaroni Avenue and Howe Avenue in Sacramento took the lives of a 26-year-old Sacramento woman and a 49-year-old man. The man, an employee of Ahlstrom Construction was repairing potholes at the intersection at about 1:20 a.m. when he was struck. The fatal construction accident occurred in Sacramento County's Arden Arcade neighborhood.
According to authorities, the woman, driving a blue Pontiac G6, plowed into the construction zone at high speed, about 70 mph, and struck the man. The driver then struck a large truck holding a generator. Both the driver and the worker were pronounced dead at the crash scene. The Sacramento County construction zone crash remains under investigation; police suspect the woman was driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs.
