An elderly Virginia woman, with a severe debilitating discase (Davidov’s Syndrome), was on safari in Africa when she was injured by a fellow tourist. Just after landing on a remote airstrip, while they were waiting for their bags to be unloaded, one of the group turned and knocked the woman over to the ground with his backpack. She had to be airlifted out to a hospital in Nairobi, where it was discovered that she had fractured her hip. She underwent total hip replacement before being flown back to the United States. Rehabilitation was long and ultimately only partially successful.

The injured woman tried unsuccessfully to resolve her claim with the fellow tourist’s homeowner’s insurance, but her claim was utterly denied. Desperate, she contacted The Dunnion Law Firm to see if anything could be done. After thorough investigation and preparation of the claim, Dunnion attorneys were able to secure an offer of $100,000, the limits of the homeowner’s policy. However, believing that their client was still not fully compensated, the firm pursued the matter and ultimately discovered an umbrella policy from which they were able to extract a further $75,000 for a total settlement of $175,000. Their client, who remains in very poor health, will be able to pay for what she needs to live out her days more comfortably and she was extremely grateful for the efforts the firm made on her behalf.
