Family Loses Mother and Grandmother in Traffic Accident -$480,000

A man driving in Santa Cruz through stop-and-go traffic with his family was hit from behind by another vehicle. No immediate injuries were apparent at the accident.

Five hours after the accident, the driver’s mother, who had been seated directly behind the passenger, complained of injuries to her ribs. Over the course of the next two weeks, she made multiple visits to the emergency room complaining of chest and rib pain. She was admitted to the hospital for continued medical care, but deteriorated significantly. After just 11 days, her son requested that her cardiac device be turned off and she be extubated. She died a few hours later.
