Passing semi-truck swerves causing another semi to lose control and roll over – $500,000

While a truck driver was driving in the ‘slow’ lane, another construction vehicle passed him on the right. The driver of the passing vehicle became distracted, lost control and overcorrected, and swerved into the truck driver’s lane. The truck driver’s big rig rolled off the roadway into a ditch, demolishing the truck and crushing the driver’s compartment.

The truck driver suffered a laceration to the head, requiring stitches. He had multiple rib fractures, bruising to the lung, chest and shoulders, a broken clavicle with multiple fragments, a deformed humerus, and ongoing back and shoulder pain. Permanent work restrictions to his usual employment ultimately required him to relocate to the Midwest to obtain work.

In its recovery of $500,000 for the injuries the driver sustained, Dunnion Law was able to include job retraining costs, as well as the irrevocable loss to his work and domestic relationships, into his total settlement.
